Twenty years ago - 1992

Several Ripley residents who attended an informational meeting expressed fears that the Ripley School building would be closed if annexation occurs with Westfield. The residents asked for some guarantees that this would not happen. They contend that the school is the main focal point in the township and, if the school is eventually closed, the town will be left with nothing. This issue has evoked strong emotions from the townspeople.

Thirty years ago - 1982

Calendar Girl of the Month is Kirstin M. Crowe, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin M. Crowe, 5 Alpine Drive, Silver Creek. The top ranked senior in her class as well as class secretary, she has participated in numerous activities and clubs. She was the high scorer in the New York Mathematics League Competition. Kirstin plans to attend college to pursue a career in engineering and/or computer science.

Forty years ago - 1972

The first anniversary of the founding of the Lake Shore Senior Citizens Club was celebrated with a luncheon at Rusch's Restaurant this month.

Fifty years ago - 1962

Julius Weinberg, former owner of the Safe Store in Dunkirk who is now living in New Orleans, La., was honored recently with an award as the "Outstanding New United Fund Volunteer in the 1962 Campaign" in the Louisiana city.
