Safety tips for hunting issued by NYS Police and DEC

Deer hunting season is upon us and hunters will be hiking into the woods across New York.

The New York State Police and Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) are reminding hunters to use basic hunter safety principles when opening day of firearms hunting begins on Saturday, Nov. 17. Some of those include:

Hunting is a fantastic and fun outdoor activity. It is a great way to get exercise and spend time with family and friends.

"It is each hunter's responsibility to maintain the reputation and integrity of hunting as a safe and enjoyable sport," Troop A Commander, Major Christopher L Cummings from the New York State Police, said.
