Churches to hold joint service Tuesday

November 17, 2012
The OBSERVER

A recent meeting of local clergy arranged for an ecumenical Thanksgiving service to be held at St. John the Baptist (Episcopal) Church on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

The service is open to the public, regardless of denomination. With the number of problems confronting humans today, in light of the natural disasters (Hurricane Sandy) at the present time, and in spite of the personal problems confronting many, it is most important to take time to give thanks for the wonderful and awesome gifts that God has given.

Also, as a part of Thanksgiving, it is requested that those attending bring a non-perishable food item to be donated to the Rural Ministry.

This service is a joint effort of the St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church, the Dunkirk First United Methodist Church, Grace Lutheran Church, St. John's UCC, First Fredonia Presbyterian Church and First United Presbyterian Church.

The altar will be decorated with the fruits of the harvest in the mode of the fall theme.

The service will consist of the liturgy and Holy Communion, with all in attendance invited to share in the Holy Communion. Members of the participating churches will be a part of the leadership of the service.

St. John the Baptist (Episcopal) Church is located on the corner of West Fourth and Lark streets in Dunkirk.
