WESTFIELD - It is never too late to earn a diploma.
At its recent meeting the Westfield Academy and Central School (WACS) Board of Education presented a high school diploma to Robert D. Breads through "Operation Recognition." Breads did not initially receive his diploma due to his service his country in World War II, but was presented one that night along with a round of applause.
"Mr. Breads, congratulations to you, sir," Board President Jeffrey Greabell said.

With plans for a merger with Brocton Central School continuing to progress, the board heard about a recent advisory committee meeting attended by three WACS board members.
Board member Marie Edwards said she feels really positive about the choice and thinks the process is going to be very thorough and very transparent.
Board Vice President Steve Cockram commented on seeing the looks on the faces of those who were hearing the financial forecast for the first time. He noted there were a lot of people saying, "Oh my gosh." Greabell was impressed with the organization structure. WACS Superintendent David Davison noticed the parallels and similarities between the two communities.
In other business:
A letter of appreciation for her gift from Peggy Sauer was received;
A policy accidentally omitted allowing for out-of-district children of employees to attend WACS tuition free was approved to be put back in;
Sarah Shulman was approved as an uncertified substitute teacher for the 2012-13 school year effective Oct. 23;
Lindsey Fix was approved as a certified substitute teacher for the 2012-13 school year effective Oct. 23;
Chantelle Liddell was approved for 12 week leave according to the Family Medical Leave Act effective Nov. 3;
Lindsey Bennett and Bryce Bentham were approved as student members to the Advisory Committee for the Consolidation Study; and
Jack Hitchcock's extension as the interim dean of students until Nov. 14 was approved.
