Two lost Dunkirk hunters rescued

STOCKTON - Two Dunkirk men were rescued Monday afternoon after hunting and becoming lost in a swamp near Bear Lake.

Around 2 p.m., deputies from the Chautauqua County Sheriff's office responded to a cell phone call from father and son, Brian Meyer, 55, and Patrick Meyer, 20, both of Dunkirk. The two lost their bearings on Chautauqua Road and ended up in a swamp near Bear Lake.

Both became stuck in the water and called for help on a mobile phone. The rescue was made difficult by mud and trees. Brian was transported by Alstar ambulance to Brooks Memorial Hospital for hypothermia. Patrick was treated at the scene and released.
