WESTFIELD - West-field Memorial Hospital Foundation hosted its most successful Wine and Cheese Tasting Fundraiser in five years. This annual event was held at 21 Brix Winery in Portland.
The evening was set off by the eclectic charm of the winery as guests enjoyed a wide variety of appetizers and desserts provided by foundation and hospital board members and friends.
Event guests sampled an array of wines from 21 Brix Winery, lemon-infused ice water, cider and a selection of cheese and crackers from Cadwell Cheese House of Dewittville. Webb's Candies and The Brothers Wood Co. of Mayville provided various kinds of chocolates and potato chips respectively, for guests to enjoy while Tops Friendly Markets provided a tray of mini sandwiches, pretzels and dip for the festivities. Westfield Nursery, Inc., provided numerous pumpkins, gourds and mums which also lent to the festive air.

More than 110 people attended the event, prompting Director of Development Patricia Gaughan DiPalma to say, "We are very pleased with the evening's turnout and remain very grateful to the entire community, especially our treasured donors, who believe so strongly and care so deeply about our community hospital, its foundation and our dual missions."
While the proceeds of the event went towards the foundation's 2012 campaign, Karen Surkala, senior vice president of business development of affiliate hospital Saint Vincent Health System, presented a $50,000 check representing her organization's 2011 challenge grant which went towards the foundation's 2011 campaign.
"We thank you for your commitment and for your affiliation once again this year," WMH President Rose Van Volkenburg said to Surkala.
