First bit of winter arrives in area

November 24, 2012
By SAMANTHA MCDONNELL - OBSERVER Staff Writer , The OBSERVER

It may not be officially winter until mid-December, but the snow is coming. Chautauqua County is one of three areas under a lake effect snow advisory through Saturday night, according to the National Weather Service in Buffalo.

"For Chautauqua into Cattaraugus and southern Erie County there is a lake effect snow advisory until midnight Saturday," meteorologist Aaron Reynolds said.

The lake effect snow advisory is set to last until Saturday at midnight, going into Sunday morning. The amount of snow is going to be "very light," Reynolds said.

"The closer you get to Lake Erie you will get one to two inches (of snow)," he added. "Further inland you go, you will get four to seven inches (of snow) total."
