Snow showers totaling 1 to 3 inches will affect the region in the morning, but the band will move north in the afternoon, impacting the Buffalo area, according to Kirk Apffel of the National Weather Service (NWS) in Buffalo.
Apffel said the Dunkirk-Fredonia area will see some snow in the morning. "It won't just be limited to the hills," he explained. "It will include Dunkirk which will get an inch or two during the morning depending on exactly where the bands settle."
Saturday Arkwight and other areas in higher elevations received "quite a few inches of snow," according to a spokesperson at the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office. Several cars went off the road in the area, and the sheriff's office is urging drivers to use caution. According to the NWS, areas around the Chautauqua Ridge received about 3 to 5 inches of snow on Saturday.
Apffel suggests travelers to the Buffalo area in the afternoon and evening should drive carefully and expect delays as the snow band develops and moves northward. "One to three inches may have more impact in high-traffic areas,"Apffel said.
Travel toward Erie will not likely pose any problems, according to Apffel. "Snow will not too much of an issue south, where we'll be getting out of steadier snow showers," he said, but added, "You can't rule out any travel problems," because smaller storms could develop in limited areas.
