Pedestrian struck near college in Fredonia

A pedestrian was struck near SUNY Fredonia on Wednesday evening.

At 6:10 p.m. a vehicle driven by Esther M. Callahan, 84, of Dunkirk was traveling north on Central Avenue.

Callahan had the green light at the intersection of Central Avenue and College Parkway when her car struck Fei Wu, 25, of Central Avenue. Wu ran out into traffic and suffered minor injuries to her leg.

She was taken to Brooks Memorial Hospital for treatment. No charges were filed.

Fredonia Police Department

Ryan G. Edens, 23, of Alberta, Canada was charged with driving while intoxicated, second-degree harassment and following too closely on Nov. 25. At 3:51 a.m. police were called to the McDonald's on Route 60 for the report of a property damage accident. Edens allegedly was in the drive-thru and stuck a vehicle ahead of him. Police found him to have bloodshot, watery eyes and could smell an odor of intoxicants coming from inside the vehicle. Edens failed several sobriety tests and was taken to Fredonia Police. He was arraigned and released on his own recognizance.

Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office

Around 9:30 p.m. sheriff's deputies along with Silver Creek Police responded to Lake Shore Hospital for a report of a male in the emergency waiting room being disorderly with hospital staff.

Upon arrival, deputies spoke with hospital staff who stated that Sterling S. Doctor, 22, of Lawtons, was in the waiting room swearing at staff and refusing to leave. Deputies spoke with Doctor and advised him to leave. Doctor refused and continued to yell obscenities at deputies and hospital staff. Doctor was taken into custody without incident. Doctor was arraigned in the Town of Hanover Court and committed to Chautauqua County Jail on $500 cash, $1,000 property bail. He will appear in court at a later date and time.

Around 9:48 p.m., Nicholas J. Hart, 33, of Ripley, was stopped on Route 394 in the town of Chautauqua for speeding. After an investigation, Hart was found to be intoxicated.

Hart was issued tickets to appear in the Town of Chautauqua Court at a later date.
