FORESTVILLE - The National Night of Prayer is a prayer for life. It begins on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception Saturday, Dec. 8 at 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 9.
It was on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception (then celebrated on Dec. 9) that Our Lady of Guadalupe, patroness of the Americas and the unborn, first appeared to St. Juan Diego. The National Night of Prayer for Life bridges these two feasts to honor Her and prays through Her intercession for the establishment of a culture of life, protection for the church from persecution and asks the Lord to revive the land. All are invited to participate.
The evening will begin with exposition of the Blessed Sacrament at the church of St. Rose of Lima, 11 Center St., Forestville. Each hour begins with formal prayer followed by one mystery of the rosary. The remainder of each hour is observed with personal silent prayer.
Anyone from the community may stop in to the church at any time. To join in praying the rosary, come at the top of the hour: 9 p.m., joyful mysteries; 10 p.m., sorrowful mysteries; 11 p.m., glorious mysteries; midnight, the luminous mysteries.
During the hour of unity, midnight to 1 a.m., participants will be united with churches across the country in prayer in an effort to end abortion and to restore God's blessings of life and religious liberty in America.
