Diego "Jimmy" Martinez Colon, 84, of Dunkirk, died Friday afternoon, November 30, 2012, at the Chautauqua County Home.
He was born March 18, 1928, in Morovis, Puerto Rico, son of the late Comilo and Isabel (Colon) Martinez.
A man of many hats, Diego was a police officer, tailor, banker and owned several businesses in the New York City and Cleveland areas, but his passion was his barber shop in Dunkirk on Main Street and Maple Avenue.

His many hobbies included locksmithing, CB and Short Wave Radios and talking to people across the ocean, but most of all he was a family man and enjoyed time spent with his family and traveling.
He was a member of the Iglesia Gethsemani (Assambleas De Dios) Church in Dunkirk.
Surviving are his wife of 38 years, Sonia (Lopez) Martinez of Dunkirk; children Diego (Mary) Martinez of Puerto Rico, Alberto (Norma) Martinez of Dunkirk, Leslie Martinez of Puerto Rico, Marie Martinez of New York City, Anthony Martinez of Florida, Miltra Martinez of New York City, Diego Martinez of New York City, Diana Done of Dunkirk, Risel Alfaro Martinez of Dunkirk, Elizabeth Martinez of Dunkirk; 2 sisters in Puerto Rico and NYC, 15 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and nieces and nephews also survive.
Relatives and friends are welcome to call at the Iglesia Gethsemani (Assambleas De Dios) Church, 115 Central Avenue in Dunkirk on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM.
Private Interment services will be held at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements are by the R. Mackowiak Funeral Home Inc., 56 East Doughty Street in Dunkirk.
