Twenty years ago - 1992

The name of James P. Subjack, Dunkirk native and former city clerk, will be proposed to Gov. Mario Cuomo for appointment as Chautauqua County District Attorney. Mr. Subjack was the only attorney to file an application for the appointment. Mr. Subjack, a Democrat, will be replacing Republican John T. Ward, who mounts the bench as County Court judge on Jan. 1. Mr. Subjack will serve for one year. The office is to appear on the Nov. 2 election ballot in 1993.

Thirty years ago 1982

John's Car Wash at Routes 20 and 60 in the town of Pomfret recently held its grand opening. The car wash is owned by Phil Cenedella of Fredonia; Mark Forbes is the manager; and Mike Brooks is an operator.

Forty years ago - 1972

John Nalbone Jr. and Nick Geiben Jr., flight instructors at Dunkirk Aviation Sales and Service in Dunkirk, have successfully completed a Cessna Pilot Course Procedures Seminar.

Fifty years ago - 1962

Richard A. Sidey of Dunkirk, currently a graduate student at Union Theological Seminary School of Sacred Music in New York, will participate in the premiere of "Novellis," a pageant-opera by Pulitzer prize winner John LaMontaine.
