Lake Shore, Forestville advance in?Hae Jude Tourney

SILVER CREEK - Lake Shore and Forestville were victorious in the tightly contested first round of the Hae Jude Tournament, Thursday at Silver Creek Central School.

In the opening game, Lake Shore built a huge halftime lead and coasted to a 46-36 win over Gowanda.

The Lady Eagles were led by Michaela Stepniak's 16 points and 11 rebounds as they led 30-15 at the break.

Miranda Aiken and Alie Linsmear each added eight points in the win.

Gowanda was paced by Alexa Farner's game-high 18 points. Kayla Isaac added seven points, six steals and four rebounds.

In the second game, Forestville hit five 3-pointers and outscored host Silver Creek 24-6 in the third quarter en route to a 58-55 win.

Alisha Szumigala recorded 13 points and 14 rebounds while Cherish Pope led the Lady Hornets with 16 points.

Sydney Youngberg and Ryanne Dugan combined for 26 points in the win.

Silver Creek actually led 34-30 at halftime, but simply couldn't slow down Forestville's red-hot shooting.

Jordan Brooks recorded a double-double for the Black Knights with 13 points and 10 rebounds while also blocking three shots.

Marissa Donovan was Silver Creek's leading scorer with 14 points. Teammate Jade Lewis added 11 points and nine assists.

The tournament resumes today with Gowanda and Silver Creek to meet in the consolation game at 6 p.m. before Lake Shore and Forestville clash in the finals at 7:30 p.m.
