Michael Allen Rouse

Michael Allen Rouse, 70, of Reno, NV, died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012, of cancer, after a short illness.

Born July 20, 1942, son of the late Voleria and Edgar Rouse of Westfield and Fredonia, Michael graduated from Fredonia High School in 1960. He attended Syracuse University and later received a bachelor of arts degree from SUNY Fredonia and a master of arts in English from Bread Loaf School of English in Vermont.

After teaching high school English for two years in Buffalo, Michael moved to Reno in 1968, where he worked in the gaming industry before going back to his first love, teaching. He was a substitute teacher in the Washoe County School District for a number of years. He was also a humanities instructor at Truckee Meadows Community College in Reno, which named him Part-Time Teacher of the Year in 2005 and 2006.

Michael is survived by his partner, Patricia Tallman Botti, originally from Fredonia; a son, Lt. Col. Douglas (Lee) Rouse, USAF, and two grand-daughters, Chandler and Cameron, all of Vienna, VA.; four sisters, Shirley Lafond (Lewisville, TX), Marilyn Abbey (Northfield, IL), Kay Rouse (Honolulu), and Sharon Parker (Jacksonville, FL); as well as a number of nieces and nephews. Burial will be in the Westfield Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
