Christmas in Dunkirk through the years

December 9, 2012
The OBSERVER

The wonderful Christmas memories I have (and there are many at my age):

The outstanding ones are the downtown stores all decorated from Main Street to Fourth to Central to Third Street.

The Santa Claus upstairs at the Graf Department Store on Central Avenue where you sat up on his lap and whispered your wishes into his ear.

The Christmas Eve supper with the family sharing the Oplatki (Christmas wafer), and oh the Christmas Day presents! A special doll and doll buggy, sled and ice skates, but most of all, Christmas with the family and going to church.

Today, Christmas is too commercialized.
