Town no help to Fredonia

December 9, 2012
The OBSERVER

Editor, OBSERVER:

I am tired of hearing about all this consolidation of government. Did anyone in the village of Fredonia notice that the town of Pomfret increased village resident taxes by 4.5 percent and increased taxes for those who live outside the Village by 3 percent?

Where is the outcry? Village residents make up 80 percent of the population of the town of Pomfret. We have our own government, made up of water/sewer, streets, fire and police. The village residents get nothing from the town for our money. The concept is wrong, we need to separate from the government of Pomfret that keeps leaching from the village taxpayers.

We provide more water to them. Why? At least three times in the past decade we have not had enough water to service our own residents, we have drained water from Cassadaga Lake and purchased water from the city of Dunkirk.

Why is the tail waging the dog? You want to reduce the tax burden on the village taxpayer, apply for "city" status and break away from the town. The village is self-sufficient. Why are we subsidizing the town of Pomfret's government?

Shame on them, enough is enough. You want to talk about no accountability, take a look at the town of Pomfret government.

Let's see if the OBSERVER prints this.

Some praise for marina

Editor, OBSERVER:

This is just a note to say thank you for a wonderful summer of fishing and boating at Chadwick Bay Marina.

I am a handicapped boat owner and have problems walking. The management provided easy access dock and parking selection and allowed slip modifications to compensate for my lack of mobility. Thank you and God bless.

Flamingo support soars

Editor, OBSERVER;

The Flying Flamingos would like to thank everyone who supported our 2012 FUNraising efforts. We have almost achieved our goal of raising $6,000 for the Kathy Seastedt "Dream On" Fund and could not have done so without an amazing community to help us.

Thank you to all the local businesses who allowed us to sell Flo the Flamingo: Nails Unlimited, Visions of Elegance, Time Pieces, Rookies on the Lake, The Dunkirk Exempts, Coughlin's Pub, 41 West, BJ's, Lil Mcgills, Heenan's, Dunkirk Schools, The Conservation Club, and Chautauqua Health and Fitness. A special thanks to the Fredonia Beaver Club, Tuscany Market, Someday Maybe Farms, TLC Health Network, TxMQ and the RO Foundation for their contributions to our cause. To all our Flamingos who worked so hard to raise money, and their friends, families and co-workers who supported us, we are forever grateful.

Lastly, we would like to thank The Resource Center for continuing to make a positive difference in the lives of those with disabilities.

May you all have a wonderful season and know that you helped to improve the lives of another over the holidays!

Words do not express our heartfelt thanks.

Dream on.

PAM BENCHLEY and ANDREA TRAMUTO,

Flying Flamingos
