TRC holds shoe drive for Humane Society

December 10, 2012
The OBSERVER

JAMESTOWN - Chautauqua County Humane Society's (CCHS) 2nd Chances Thrift Store received 117 pounds of castoff shoes from The Resource Center (TRC) as a result of the center's recent shoe donation drive for CCHS shelter pets. The effort by TRC was the first official drive in support of CCHS's latest recycling program, "Project Soles 4 Souls." The new and ongoing shoe collection program recycles unwanted shoes to the neediest people and brings funds back to the organization to help take care of the pets sheltered at the Society's Strunk Road Adoption Center. 2nd Chances Thrift Store will take any type of shoes without holes in them. All Soles 4 Souls donations are received at the Fairmount Avenue Plaza thrift store location or the Strunk Road Adoption Center.

Project Soles 4 Souls is the latest addition to two other ongoing recycling programs at 2nd Chances Thrift Store. Broken or outdated electronics and unusable textiles of all kinds are received too. All three programs are part of CCHS's overall effort to keep items out of landfills and re-purpose them for funds that take care of homeless pets. Individuals or groups interested in helping should call the store manager at 664-4504 or visit in person.

The Chautauqua County Humane Society is a non-profit that is not part of any government organization and its mission to care for animals by promoting adoptions, preventing cruelty and providing education relies solely on public support. For more information, visit www.spcapets.com or call 665-2209.
