Donald E. Cardinal

Donald E. Cardinal, 79, of Rootstown, Ohio, passed away peacefully Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at Akron General Hospital surrounded by his family.

He was born June 23, 1933 in Jamestown, NY. to the late Edward and Olive Mae (Cardinal) Richardson. Don had lived in Rootstown since 1975; at one time for eleven years he served as a Rootstown Twp. Trustee and Zoning Inspector. He worked at the US Post Office in Ravenna from 1954 to 1964 and then retired from the Rootstown Post office on October 21, 1995.

He was a member of the Rootstown Congregational Church and volunteered at Robinson Memorial Hospital. From 1975 to 1988 he and his wife owned and operated the Hickory Hills Park and Campground in Rootstown. Don served his country in the US Navy during the Korean War and enjoyed doing woodworking.

He will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Mary Ellen (Lohr) Cardinal, whom he married December 18, 1953; daughters Debra Ann (Jeff) Michael of Rootstown, Denise Lynn (David) Arango of Columbus; son Donald (Joan) Cardinal II of Edinburg; 13 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; sister Betty Cardinal (Robert) Wilmarth of Westfield, NY; daughter in law Rhonda Lohr of Arizona; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Kevin Lohr.

Funeral Services were held Dec. 8, 2012 in Ravenna, Ohio.
