Twenty years ago - 1992

"We do hair with care!" is the motto at the all-new Pink Puff Beauty Salon at 363 Lake Shore Drive East in Dunkirk. Celebrating the grand opening are Darlene Miga (owner/operator); Jean Coil (stylist/manicurist); and Diana Szczerbacki (stylist). The professional staff has over 32 years of combined experience.

Thirty years ago - 1982

Koch's famous Holiday Beer is once again being sold throughout the holiday season. This year, the bottle has a new look with a festive red and green label and the date 1982 clearly printed on each bottle. Changing the date every year conveys the distinctiveness of this limited edition beer that Koch's brews just once a year. The tradition started when Fred Koch, the brewery's founder, first brewed a holiday beer for his family, friends and employees. That custom has been maintained since 1888.

Forty years ago - 1972

Yearbook editor at Westfield Academy and Central School, Miss Diane Louise Young, has been named Student of the Week. She resides at 50 Bliss St., Westfield.

Fifty years ago - 1962

According to a survey made by the Dunkirk city engineer's department, Dutch Elm disease is a critical illness in the city. Of the 1,200 elms in parks and along city streets under the jurisdiction of the city engineer's department, 280 are infested.
