Barker Library closed Friday

The Darwin R. Barker Library will be closed all day on Friday for construction. The library is located at 7 Day St. in Fredonia.

Holiday Shopping Event to be held at Darwin's

Darwin's Health Club in Fredonia is holding its second annual Holiday Shopping Event. Gifts and gift certificates will be sold by many members of Darwin's. The event will be this Saturday, December 15th from 10 a.m. to noon at Darwin's. There will be refreshments served and a special drawing for a gift bag full of goodies from the participating vendors. There is no admission, but the donation of a non-perishable food item to support the local food pantry would be kindly accepted.

Limited menu at Lake Shore Health Care Center

IRVING - As officials at Lake Shore Health Care Center are completing renovation plans for its employee and visitor dining area, the public is advised that menu items will not be available for a short period during the final phase of the project.

Linda Summers, FACHE, MBA, OT, chief operating officer, TLC Health Network, said food service will not be available for anyone other than patients and residents of the facility from today through and including Monday.

"We're sorry for the inconvenience, but it is necessary for completion of the project including flooring and equipment installation," she said. Food service is expected to resume starting at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

CDBG applications due Friday

Applications for the city of Dunkirk's 2013 Community Development Block Grant funds are due Friday. The Department of Development will accept stamped applications until noon on Friday. No applications will be accepted after noon on Friday. The department is on the second floor of the Stearns Building, located adjacent to City Hall.

Christmas in Gowanda to be held Friday and Saturday

Christmas in Gowanda will be held Friday, Dec. 14 and Saturday, Dec. 15. Starting Friday, businesses in downtown Gowanda will be open from 5 to 8 p.m. offering special deals. Santa will be at Amish Collections on East Main Street and the Gowanda High School Chamber Choir will perform outside in downtown. The Hollywood Theater will also show a Christmas movie at the top of the hour starting at 6 to 8 p.m. Wagon rides will be provided by Misty Ridge Carriage.

The event will continue on Saturday starting at 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Train rides will be available for $2 starting at the depot at 50 Commercial St. Rides will leave every hour on the hour starting at 11 a.m. and are given by New York & Lake Erie Railroad Train Rides. More information on the train rides will be available by contacting Jesse's Toy Box at 532-3196. Santa will be at Amish Collections from noon to 3 p.m. The Hollywood Theater will show a Christmas movie at the top of the hour starting at noon until 4 p.m. Admission to the movie is free but a non-perishable food donation is encouraged. Outdoor vendors will be available on Friday and Saturday.
