Gerald Sobecki Sr., 83, of Dunkirk, NY died Wednesday (Dec. 12, 2012) at UPMC-Hamot Hospital in Erie, Pa.
He was born in Dunkirk on May 17, 1929, the son of the late Constantine and Jeanette (Pleszewski) Sobecki.
A lifelong Dunkirk resident, Jerry was a retired employee of Allegheny Ludlum. A graduate of Dunkirk Industrial High School, he was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.

He served as an officer and director for the Dunkirk-Fredonia Midget Football League for 20 years and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Virginia (Guziec) Sobecki, whom he married on June 19, 1954; two daughters, Romayne (Larry) Rutski of Fredonia, NY and Roberta (Tom) Krystofiak of Bourbonnais, Ill.; three sons, Gerald (Patti) Sobecki Jr. of Indianapolis, Ind., Nick (Roxanne) Sobecki and Mark John (Heidi) Sobecki, both of Brocton, NY; his grandchildren, Jamie (Rob) Westin, Thomas (Beth) Krystofiak, Megan Sobecki, Jessica Rutski, Nicholas Sobecki, Jay (Kristelle) Krystofiak, Amanda Sobecki, Jackie Sobecki, Michael Sobecki, Emily Krystofiak, Jacob Sobecki, Sara Sobecki, Lynne (Matt) Schellinger and Lisa (Kenny) Lee; two brothers, James (Arlene) Sobecki of Washington, Ind., and Ronald (Jeanne) Sobecki of Forestville, NY; his sister, Margaret Work-off of Forestville, NY; 10 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Joanne Smyers.
Visitation will be on Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012 from 5-8 P.M. at the Newman Funeral Home Inc. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial to be held Monday, Dec. 17, 2012 at 10 AM in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church. Private interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
