SINCLAIRVILLE - Co-operation among administrators, faculty and the school board has paid off.

At the recent meeting of the Cassadaga Valley Central School Board, Superinten-dent Scott Smith was happy to report that the district's Annual Professional Review Plan was accepted by the State Education Department on Dec. 4.

Superintendent Scott Smith reported Cassada-ga Valley Central School’s Annual Professional Per-formance Review plan was approved by the State Education Depart-ment. Because it was completed before Jan. 17, the district is able to receive an increase of $497,410 in state aid.

Smith said, "A number of people worked long and hard (to make this happen)."

Smith thanked those involved: William Carlson, board of education member; Richard Siegel, middle school principal; John Kwietniewski, Sinclairville Elementary School principal; Melissa Kelly, elementary teacher; Andy Cusimano, Wendy Dyment and Gayle Wilcox, high school teachers; and Steve Helwig, high school teacher and president of Cassadaga Valley Faculty Association.

He credited the leadership of Steve Helwig and the cooperation of the teachers for the success of the district plan.

The APPR is a detailed plan for the evaluation of teachers and principals in a school district.

According to New York State Education Department's Guidance on APPR (a 110-page document), "The purpose of the evaluation system is to ensure that there is an effective teacher in every classroom and an effective leader in every school."

A listing of approved plans is available on the State Education Depart-ment's website.

To view the plans, the website is: usny.nysed.gov/rttt/teachers-leaders/plans/home.html.

By clicking on a district's name, the user can link to the plan for that district.
