PORTLAND - Resi-dents of the Town of Portland are being given a little extra time to have their say in the Town's future.
As part of the creation of a new comprehensive plan under way in the Town of Portland, a survey is currently under way as a means for residents to share their opinion on community issues.
The online survey is part of the planning process being undertaken by a 7-member community Steering Committee and Small Town Planning Services, a local consulting firm based in Westfield, on behalf of the Town of Portland and its residents.

Town of Portland residents may pick up and return Comprehensive Plan Surveys at the Ahira Hall Memorial Library. Surveys are also available online and at the Portland Town Hall.
Results from the survey will be used to develop the Town's vision and the goals for its future, and will ensure that the needs and desires of residents are addressed in the final Comprehensive Plan.
"I would like to thank everyone that has completed a survey. We have had a decent response to date, but we know that many households have not yet completed a survey," explains Town Supervisor and steering committee member Dan Schrantz. "At this busy time of year we want to be sure residents have been given every opportunity to provide the committee with their input so we can put a good comprehensive plan together identifying all issues and opportunities that could face the Town of Portland. We have therefore extended the deadline to complete the survey to December 27 for paper surveys and December 31 for online surveys."
Anyone who lives in the Town of Portland, including the Village of Brocton, or who owns a business or property in the Town, may complete a survey.
Survey responses will be confidential and are anonymous.
The online survey program utilized does not identify whose computer is utilized or which IP address a survey is sent from.
The online survey is expected to take residents approximately 10-15 minutes to complete and will be available online until Dec. 31.
The survey can be accessed via a link on the Town of Portland website at: www.town.portland.ny.us.
For those without internet access, paper versions of the survey are available at the Town Hall and at the Ahira Hall Memorial Library.
All completed paper surveys must be returned to the Town Hall or Library before 4 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 27.
