Guillermo Rivera, age 89, of 945 Dove St., Dunkirk, N.Y., died Thursday, December 27, 2012 surrounded by his loving family.
He was born August 11, 1923 in Jayuya, Puerto Rico to Guillermo and Cruz Rivera. On November 18, 1950 he married his wife Aurea DeJesus Rivera.
Guillermo was an avid gardener. He loved to cook, play lottery tickets and his music. He also enjoyed riding his bike, playing his guitar, boxing, and reading the Bible. He adored his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a Roman Catholic and a member of the Cursillistas. He was a retiree of the Nickel Plate Railroad.
Survivors include 5 sons: William (Patricia) Rivera of Dunkirk, NY, Louis (Yolanda) Rivera of Jacksonville, FL, Julio (Marilyn) Rivera of Ellerslie, GA, David Rivera of Rochester, NY, and Edwin Rivera of Miami, FL; and three daughters: Maria (Michael) Flaherty of Apopka, FL, Zoraida (Fred) Dziduch of Dunkirk, NY, and Aurea (Charles) Neal of Tucson, AZ. Grandfather of 11 grandsons, 8 grand-daughters and 16 great-grandchildren. Also survived by 1 sister: Bernardine "Nardy" Pierluissi and 2 brothers: Antonio "Tony" Rivera and Benedicto "Beno" Rivera, and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents and his wife, Aurea, Guillermo was predeceased by brothers and sisters: Luis Rivera, Jose Rivera, Candida Rivera, Carmen Rivera, Zoraida Rivera, Aracelis Rivera and Aracelis Rivera.
Family and friends may call today 4-7 p.m. at the LARSON-TIMKO FUN-ERAL HOME, 20 Central Avenue, Fredonia, where prayers will be offered Saturday morning at 10:45 am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. El-izabeth Ann Seton Church at 11:30 a.m. Interment will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery.
