Edith Velma Shafer, 95, died Wednesday (Dec. 26, 2012) at the Absolut of Westfield, with her loving family surrounding her. She had been a former resident of both Ripley and Westfield, NY.
She was born Jan. 16, 1917 to the late Lenox and Eva Noble.
Edith worked as a clerk for Jamesway of Lakewood for 16 years until her retirement. Her favorite hobbies were bowling and bingo.

Survivors include four children, Shirley Jean (Charles) Glover and Joyce Elaine "B.G." O'Neal of Houston, Texas, Frank (Rita) Russell of Oklahoma and Phyllis Mae (Robert) Reid of Florida. She is further survived by her sister, Margary Hubbard, and several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
Edith was predeceased by her husband, David Martin Shafer; three brothers and five sisters.
The 11:00 AM Funeral Service will be held on Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, at the Mathews Funeral Home, 104 West Main St., Ripley, NY with Rev. Craig Buelow officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to attend and may call at the Mathews Funeral Home on Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012 from 2:00-4:00 PM and 7:00-9:00 PM. Interment will be at the Quincy Cemetery in Ripley, NY. Donations to the Ripley Methodist Church, in Edith's memory, would be appreciated by the family.
