Carl R. Westling Jr., 81, of Silver Creek, formerly of Dunkirk, died Tuesday morning (Jan. 1, 2013) at the Chautauqua County Home in Dunkirk.
He was born May 30, 1931 in South Dayton, the son of the late Carl R. and Myrtle (Philbrick) Westling.
Carl married Delanor J. Dascenzo on April 14, 1951. Delanor passed away on Jan. 14, 2012.
He retired from National Fuel Gas (formerly Iroquois Gas Company) on Nov. 1, 1987 after 31 years and three months of loyal continuous service.
Carl became an avid golfer after retirement, was a snowbird for over 18 years and was best remembered for his unselfish services to friends and family - a gifted handyman.
Survivors include his three children, Roberta L. (Robert) Rule of Germantown, Md., Cynthia M. (Brian) Slocum of Largo, Fla., and Carl R. (Lynn) Westling III of Cheektowaga; seven grandchildren, Charles H. (Nichole) Acker IV, Robert M. Acker, Daniel J. Acker, Ashley M. Corbett, Matthew E. Zoladz, Angela M. (Jacob) Neubauer and Carl R. Westling IV; and three great-grandchildren, Katheryn N. Acker, Charles H. Acker V and Madilynn M. Sherwood. He is also survived by two brothers, Jerald (Dema) Westling and Richard (Vicki) Westling.
Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret Menshel; and his brother, Donald Westling.
Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 11 o'clock in the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home. The Rev. John Duenas will officiate. Burial will be in Willowbrook Park Cemetery. Calling hours will be held today from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org/involved/
