Calan Pogorzelski led a slew of Dunkirk indoor track and field athletes with second-place finishes Saturday, during a meet held at Fredonia State on Saturday.
Pogorzelski finished second in the 600-meter event in a time of 1:49.1 while also finishing fourth in the 300 in a time of :46.6. Pogorzelski also teamed with Lisa Dunbar, Yvette Hernandez and Emilee Hanlon to help the 4x200 relay team to a second-place finish in a time of 2:00.3.
Dunbar was third in the pole vault while Hanlon finished second in the 55 in a time of :08.21 and was sixth in the long jump at 14-feet, 1/4-inch. Also for the Lady Marauders, Amanda Michalski qualified for the Sectional meet in the triple jump with her leap of 31-6 1/4 while Amancia Viera took fourth in the shot put with her throw of 28-0.
In the boys' meet, Nick Barlette finished second in the 55 (:07.05) and helped the 4x200 relay team to a second-place finish in a time of 1:42.2. Joining Barlette were Nick Stolinski, Kevin Morales and Verek Nixon, who placed third in the 300 at :41.1 and fourth in the 55 at :07.25.
The 4x800 relay team of Ethan Francis, Morales, Javier Soto and Tito Rojas also took second, crossing the finish line in a time of 9:21.
Soto took fourth in the 600 at 1:32.5 while Morales was sixth in the 600 at 1:34.2. Alex Paul Williams placed second in the shot put after his throw of 39-6. Rashad Graham placed sixth in the 300 at :42.2.
The boys and girls teams will compete again Saturday, Jan. 19 and Monday, Jan. 21. Both meets will be held at Fredonia State.
For Fredonia, Garret Johnson finished sixth in the triple jump with his leap of 34-7. Bac Dake took seventh in the same event, after jumping 34-5 1/2 while also achieving a personal best in the long jump at 17-2.
Tino Landis and Breden Maslak also set personal bests Saturday, with Landis throwing the shot put 30-9 1/4 and Maslak running the 300 in :45.6.
For the Lady Hillbillies, Devin Kowalewski ran the 55 hurdles in :09.6, taking fourth while Nicole Woleben was fifth in :09.7. Jillian Kowalski was fourth in both the 1,000 and 1,500 in 3:23 and 5:37, respectively, setting a personal best in the 1,000.
Also for the Lady Hillbillies, Erica Vicary was fourth in the 3,000 in a time of 12:25, Emily Wan was fifth in the 600, setting a personal best with her time of 1:55, and Ally Cobb set a personal best in the 300 with her time of :47.5.
