MAYVILLE - A man has pleaded guilty in connection to a flaming alcohol incident near SUNY Fredonia that occurred in 2010, according to news outlets.
Joshua Benton, then 20, was attending a party on Temple Street in May 2010 when he poured alcohol into a can and started the container on fire. Thinking the container had not caught fire, Benton poured more alcohol into the container, igniting the liquid. The fire then spilled on two individuals sitting on a nearby couch, Taylor Meckley, then 19, of Hamburg and Patrick Bettcher, also 19 at the time. Bettcher was treated and released at the hospital while Meckley was flown to Erie County Medical Center for treatment.
Benton pleaded guilty in Chautauqua County Court and was sentenced to probation.
