January 17, 2013
The OBSERVER

MINA - Chautauqua County sheriff's deputies report one person has died after an accident this morning on the eastbound lanes of Interstate 86.

Milton Frank Pertl of Girard, Pa. has been identified as the victim following notification by the Pennsylvania State Police in Girard, according to the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office.

The accident, which occurred at 3:05, involved a tractor trailer that was stopped due to another vehicle that had jack knifed in front of it. A box truck, driven by the victim, was also eastbound and drove into the rear of the stopped tractor trailer. Witnesses say the victim was traveling too fast considering the icy conditions.

The eastbound lanes, which were closed due to the accident, have since reopened.
