Special CVCS committee formed
The Cassadaga Valley Central School Board of Education has established a committee whose purpose is to analyze the possibility of closing The Cassadaga Elementary School by the start of the 2013 2014 school year.
The first meeting of this committee will be held on Wednesday. If you are interested in serving on this committee, please contact Kristen Aldinger, District Clerk at 962-5155.
Sidewalk program applications now being accepted by City of Dunkirk
The City of Dunkirk Department of Public Works is now accepting applications for the 2013 Sidewalk Replacement Program. Residents can call the office at 366-9832 or stop by to complete an application during normal business hours. Applicants who applied for last year's program, but did not participate, must reapply this season. Applications are not carried over from last year. The program is on a first come, first serve basis until available funds are exhausted. Approval letters for program participants will be mailed in the spring after a pre-inspection is completed.
The program covers only the main pedestrian sidewalk fronting the residence. Applicants are requested to have some idea as to how much sidewalk they wish to replace under the program. Further information can be obtained by contacting the Public Works Office.
Dunkirk Common Council members have three meetings today
Dunkirk Common Council members will be involved with three public meetings today, beginning with a 10 a.m. meeting of council's Public Works Committee.
At 4:30 p.m. the full council will meet to consider the ratification of a new contract with The City of Dunkirk Police Benevolent Association.
Following that meeting council's Finance Committee is scheduled to meet at 5 p.m. All meetings are in City Hall's second floor conference room.
Gail Erb to appear on Senior Report
Senior Report with Reed Powers will have Gail Erb as the guest on Saturday's television program. Erb's topic is vegetarianism. The live, call-in program airs from 9 to 10 a.m. on Saturdays. Individuals may call 753-5225 during that time with questions, comments or a shout-out. The program is rebroadcast each day at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. for some communities. Reed Powers, host of Senior Report, has been producing the television program since 1995. The series highlights senior citizen club news for 15 minutes with the remainder of the hour-long program devoted to the featured guest. The guest is subject to change.
Senior Report is shown live on Saturday mornings on Time Warner cable systems covering the following communities: Brocton, Cassadaga, Chautauqua, Fredonia, Mayville, North Harmony, Portland, Ripley, Sherman, Stockton and Westfield on Channel 5. In Dunkirk, Falconer, Forestville, Hanover, Irving, Jamestown, Lakewood and Silver Creek the program is on channel 19. The show originates at the Access Channel 5 studio in Mayville.
Infinity new student orientation session Monday evening
Infinity will have a new student orientation session Monday at 6 p.m. at the Infinity Visual and Performing Arts, Inc., 115 East 3rd St., Jamestown.
The orientation takes 40 minutes and involves watching a video and taking a tour of the facility. Attendance at one of the orientation sessions is required for new students:
Silver Creek meetings
The special meeting of the Silver Creek Village Board scheduled for Friday was canceled. The board will meet today at 7 p.m. in the village hall for its regular workshop and meeting.
Pomfret Zoning Board of Appeals meeting scheduled Thursday
A Zoning Board of Appeals for the Town of Pomfret meeting has been scheduled for Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at 9 Day St., Fredonia.
The board will discuss a special use permit and area variance request for Kathleen Campola at 8215 Route 60, Cassadaga.
of Education budget workshop Wednesday
The Gowanda Board of Education will hold a budget workshop on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the Middle School Library.
The public is encouraged and welcome to attend this meeting.
Gas prices fall
Average retail gasoline prices in Rochester have fallen 1.7 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.66/g Sunday, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 319 gas outlets in Rochester. This compares with the national average that has increased 0.7 cents per gallon in the last week to $3.26/g, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.
Including the change in gas prices in Rochester during the past week, prices Sunday were 7.8 cents per gallon higher than the same day one year ago and are unchanged versus a month ago. The national average has increased 1.9 cents per gallon during the last month and stands 8.9 cents per gallon lower than this day one year ago.
