SINCLAIRVILLE - Tim Bender had a game-high 15 points, adding nine rebounds, four assists and two steals Wednesday night, helping lead Cassadaga Valley (6-6) past Panama (3-8), 44-36, during non-league boys basketball action.
"It was good to play again," Cassadaga Valley head coach Rich Clifford said. "We outrebounded them 36-21 ... We really played tough-nosed defense. Our league is so tough and we're just trying to get better each and every game."
The Cougars held the Panthers to just 14 points over the first two quarters, building a 25-14 lead at halftime. Cassadaga Valley kept up the pressure on defense as it held Panama to six points in the third quarter to take a 34-20 lead into the fourth.
"We were working really hard," Clifford said of his team.
The Panthers had their best quarter over the game's final eight minutes, outscoring the Cougars, 16-10.
Cody Johnson was the only other Cassadaga Valley player in double-digits, as he scored 11 points. Randy Dalaba hauled down a game-high 13 rebounds to go with six points in the win.
For Panama, Dan O'Dell had a team-high 11 points while Alec Blose chipped in nine points and eight steals in the loss.
