redonia State will celebrate National Girls & Women in Sports Day on Feb. 2 at the Steele Hall Fieldhouse as part of the Blue Devils' home basketball doubleheader vs. Oswego.
In addition to a raffle of donated items, a local grade school girls basketball team will play a mini-game during halftime of the women's game, scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. The men's team will also play at 4 p.m.
Free t-shirts commemorating the event will be distrubuted until the supply has been exhausted.
The Buffalo Bills, Buffalo Sabres, Buffalo Bandits, New York Jets, Dallas Cowboys, Miami Dolphins, and the Syracuse Crunch hockey team are among the organizations that have already donated items for the raffle. Tickets are $1 each.
As usual, Fredonia State students showing a valid ID card will be admitted free. In addition, children ages 16 and under will be free of charge. Admission price for all other spectators will be $3 - a reduction of $2 per ticket.
This is the third straight year Fredonia State has celebrated NG&WSD and the 27th year its been held nationally.
Contributions and support for the event has been provided by the Faculty Student Association; Fredonia State departments of Campus Life, Residence Life, and Student Affairs; the university President's Office; the Center for Multicultural Affairs; and Steamroller Press.
