Men and women aged 65 and older or anyone who has power of attorney or is a Health Care Proxy for an elderly person is invited to attend the "Open House and Healthy Aging Information Night" at the WCA Home in Fredonia on Wednesday, Feb. 13 at 7 p.m. to ask questions and get answers on a variety of health care issues that impact people in their senior years.
Experts will be on hand from a variety of agencies and free blood pressure screenings will be given. The event is free and all are welcome. Tours of the WCA Home will be offered and refreshments will be served.
A representative from the Office for the Aging will explain services and support that is available from the county agency.
Patients Pharmacy, Inc., of Jamestown will answer questions about changes that are coming in the pharmacy and insurance realm, including Medicare Part D and the Elderly Pharmaceutical Insurance Coverage (EPIC) program. They will also explain how medication should be stored in the home or destroyed once it's no longer needed.
The nationally-accredited home health care agency, Willcare, will be on hand to discuss the common dangers associated with falls and how to prevent falls in the home. They will also cover ways that physical therapy and occupational therapy can help an aging person with cognition and balance.
Katie Drummond, RN, director of nursing at the WCA Home, will discuss signs and symptoms associated with heart problems, and give some health tips on ways to ensure good heart health. She will give blood pressure screenings to all who are interested.
