Area youth motocross racers brought home big trophies at the Western New York Motocross Association banquet held recently in Rochester. The youngsters began practicing in early 2012, racing nearly every weekend form April thru October. With their families, these youth traveled to race in Arcade, Silver Springs, Swain, Miles Mountain and Area 51. Jonathan Valone Jr. and Connor Mowry, race in the 51cc Class while Samantha Mowry races in the 60-65cc Class in the 7-9-year old age group. Valone ranked first in the KOMPA Series' Intermediate Class and sixth in the Senior Class, while finishing second overall in the Intermediate Class. Connor Mowry ranked third in the fall KOMPA Series and third overall in the Intermediate Class. Samantha Mowry ranked seventh in the fall KOMPA series in the 60-65cc Class. Valone, a first grader at St. Joseph's School in Gowanda, is the son of Jon and Laura Valone. Connor Mowry, a kindergartner at Cattaraugus-Little Valley, and his sister Samantha Mowry, a fourth grader, are the children of Shawn and Amy Mowry.

CVCS Boys Basketball to Hold Coaches vs. Cancer Game
The Cassadaga Valley boys' varsity basketball team will be holding its annual Coaches vs. Cancer game on Tuesday, Feb. 5, when it hosts CCAA Division 2 foe Frewsburg.
Cancer victims from both communities will be honored before the game. All proceeds collected will benefit the local chapter of the American Cancer Society.
Checks can be made payable to The American Cancer Society. If you are unable to attend the game, but would like to make a donation, you can send them in to Cassadaga Valley Central School, P.O. Box 540, Sinclairville, NY 14782, c/o Peggy Heath.
Travel Soccer Sets Sign-ups
Sign ups for this Spring's Northwest Chautauqua Soccer Club Lightning Travel Soccer Teams will take place Wednesday, Feb. 6, from 6-8 p.m., at McDonald's in Westfield, Meeder's in Ripley, Ahira Hall Memorial Library in Brocton and the Chautauqua Lake Central School lobby.
Players ages 9-17 are invited. Practices (two per week) and home games are played at NorthLake Family Recreation Center in Westfield during May and June.

Ice Hockey Spring Team
looking for players
The Dunkirk-Fredonia Modified Ice Hockey team is looking for seventh and eighth grade hockey players to play in the WNYHSCHL spring league.
Players must be currently enrolled in seventh or eighth grade in the Dunkirk, Fredonia or surrounding schools. Tryouts and practices start the week of March 10, and games will be played until the end of June.

The Gowanda at Fredonia girls' varsity basketball game will be televised tonight, at 7:30 p.m., on Cable Access Channel 5 in Fredonia and Channel 19 in Dunkirk.
Ed Eaker will have the call of the game with Greg Krauza providing color commentary.
