Pine Valley 58, Panama 50
PANAMA - Pine Valley's pressure proved too much for Panama in CCAA Division 3 girls basketball action on Wednesday night.
"It came down to handling (Pine Valley's) pressure," Panama coach Rob Collver said. "They have a very aggressive, in-your-face press and we didn't handle it well."
That press created 27 Panama turnovers, and helped the visitors earn a 58-50 victory.
Trailing 33-25 at the break, Panama had a particularly difficult time with the pressure in the third period - as it was held to just two field goals and eight total points - allowing Pine Valley to balloon its advantage to 48-33 heading into the final period.
Laural Killock led the victors with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Kayla Mansfield added eight points and 13 boards and Alex Bentham had five steals to go with her nine points.
For Panama, which dropped to 6-8 overall and 5-4 in league, Brittany Lenart tallied a game-high 16 points, Megan Conway pulled in nine rebounds and Brionna Swanson scored eight points and made five steals.
Panama won't have much time to think about this loss, however, as it will be right back on the court tonight at Maple Grove.
