League of Women Voters to explore media trustworthiness

February 9, 2013
The OBSERVER

The League of Women Voters of Chautauqua County welcome the public to their Wednesday noon luncheon meeting at the White Inn in Fredonia, which will center on truth in the media as it concerns politics and political news. Their guest speaker is SUNY Fredonia video production professor Mark Kiyak, who will give a presentation on truth in the media. Questions will be raised and discussed, such as: From where do the newspapers, television stations, and radio programs get their facts? Do they have truth policies? Are they checked for accuracy? Are they leaning toward one political party or candidate? Do their stories promote sensationalism?
