JAMESTOWN - The Gowanda Lady Panthers (6-10, 4-7) clamped down on defense en route to a 45-31 victory over the Southwestern Lady Trojans (6-10, 4-7) in CCAA Division 1 girls high school basketball action Saturday.
Gowanda held a 17-16 halftime advantage before out-scoring Southwestern, 28-15, in the second half. The victory came a day after the Lady Panthers defeated Falconer on the road.
"I don't know if (Southwestern was) in a funk or not," Gowanda coach Megan Henelein said. "We played great defense and I was pleased with that."
Markie John led the Lady Panthers with 10 rebounds and four steals while Alexa Farner recorded 11 points, eight rebounds and two steals in a victorious effort. Emma Weyand supported the Gowanda attack with three points, four assists and five steals.
Jenna Yuchnitz paced the Lady Trojans with 13 points, including a trio of 3-point shots. Alex Sullivan added eight points and six steals while Sally Rudny had two points and five rebounds.
