CHEEKTOWAGA - Paced by Reed Porterfield's individual victory in the 100-yard breaststroke, the Fredonia Hillbillies finished 10th in the Section 6 Class C Swimming and Diving Championship Saturday at Maryvale High School in Cheektowaga.
Porterfield beat 28 total swimmers with a new school record of 1:03.34, nearly five seconds ahead of second-place Jacob Radlich of Cleveland Hill (1:07.94). Porterfield also finished second with a personal best in the 200 individual medley (2:10.62), finishing behind winner Jordan Powers of Southwestern (2:02.17).

The Hillbillies ended the meet with 108 points while Cleveland Hill won the event with 310 points.
Jacob Brown finished fifth in the 100 freestyle with his best time of the year (:53.01), qualifying him for next week's sectionals. Jamie Miller of Eden (:49.35) won the event. Brown also finished eighth in the 50 freestyle (:24.00) behind champion Jimmy Stuart of Tonawanda (:22.53).
Freshman Trystan Meyer finished seventh for the Hillbillies in the 100 butterfly (1:07.19) behind winner Lyle Wagner of Royalton-Hartland (:56.33).
The relay team of Porterfield, Meyer, Brown and eighth-grader Matt Zevenbergen took sixth in the 200 medley (1:54.18) and 13th in the 200 freestyle (1:43.27). Both times represented season bests for Fredonia. Southwestern and Royalton-Hartland won the 200 medley relay and the 200 freestyle relay, respectively.
Next up for Fredonia is next weekend's Sectionals. While Porterfield, Brown, Meyer and the relay teams have all qualified for Sectionals, only the top 24 times in each event will actually compete. The Sectional field will be released Monday afternoon.
