ALLEGANY - Dunkirk (6-11, 6-6) rebounded from a 13-point first-quarter deficit to pull off a 50-49 win over CCAA Division 1 foe Allegany-Limestone, on Tuesday, during boys' high school basketball action.
"It was their Senior Night," Dunkirk head coach Jerome Moss said. "And they came out very strong, they were running the floor and hitting their shots."
However, the Marauders settled things down in the second quarter, pulling to within eight before halftime, 33-25.
"That probably made the biggest difference," Moss noted of his team's ability to slow the Gators' offense down. "In the second, things settled down and played consistent basketball."
Michael Bess gave Dunkirk the boost it needed in the second half, connecting on four 3-pointers. Bess, who was playing in his first game since coming back after a week-long battle with the flu, finished the game with 15 points.
"I thought that was pretty good for a kid who had been under the weather," Moss said.
Dunkirk outscored Allegany-Limestone 13-9 in the third quarter and 10-7 in the fourth to pull off the 1-point win.
Alex Crossan finished with nine rebounds and five blocks for Dunkirk, which has one regular-season game left, a rematch with undefeated Silver Creek on Thursday. The Black Knights beat the Marauders, 90-70, to open the season.
"It was a good win for this team (Tuesday)," Moss concluded. "Now we just have to get ready for the next one."
