Billups scores 18, but not enough as Buff State wins

The Fredonia State men's basketball team dropped a SUNYAC contest, 92-74, to Buffalo State Tuesday evening in Steele Hall.

The Devils were led by Amir Billups with 18 points, including four three-pointers. Robert Lyles added 15 points and four assists and Tyrone Clark had 13 points, fours assists and seven rebounds. As a team, the Devils connected for 10 3-pointers.

Buff State's Roderick Epps led all scorers with 30 points and Jake Simmons added 23.

The Devils took the early lead thanks to some hot shooting. Their biggest edge, 23-16, came eight minutes into the game. Billups hit on three of five 3-pointers and the Devils connected on 7-of-12 threes in the half. They also converted 10-of-12 free throws.

Buffalo State (8-8 SUNYAC, 13-9) rallied late in the half. Tied 28-all, the Bengals ran off 14 straight points to take the lead. They led 47-35 at the half.

The Devils (2-14 SUNYAC, 6-16 overall) are back home Friday, taking on Geneseo at 8 p.m., on Senior Night.
