Birthday: League boosts knowledge

February 14, 2013
The OBSERVER

As noted in the piece by Marcia Merrins on this page, today the League of Women Voters celebrates its 93rd year.

Despite the name of the organization, it is open to all. It has been helping our newspaper - and community - educate residents about area issues, candidates as well as state and national topics.

On Wednesday, Mark Kiyak, a Fredonia State communications professor, gave an excellent program on trust and the media at the White Inn in Fredonia. While he talked mainly about the national broadcast portion, social and print media also was part of the discussion.

Happy birthday, League. And thanks for all your contributions - on a national and local level.
