Playing for a cause

February 16, 2013
The OBSERVER

Pictured above, at left, are members of the Silver Creek and Chautauqua Lake girls' basketball teams, who came together Friday night for the?Black Knights' annual 'Pink Out the Gym' event. Proceeds from ticket sales, donations and 50/50 raffles will go to benefit Chautauqua Lake Central Schools student Aili Makuch, who is currently battling cancer. Makuch was unable to be on hand Friday night, but she sent along a text message with her father, Bill Makuch, thanking everyone for their support. Silver Creek head coach Tammy Rice thanked all who came out to support the event, as well as Mary Gorka, Sonya Pearl and Samantha Jones, three key contributors to the planning of the event. Pictured at right are members of the crowd that came out dressed in pink to support the event. A rough total at the end of the night showed that nearly $5,000 dollars was raised to help Makuch in her fight against cancer.
