With city streets from Second to Fourth surrounded by police, Gualberto Gonzalez did not have a chance.
Last Wednesday, Gonzalez was apprehended by Dunkirk police around 6 p.m. Gonzalez is the suspect in a number of burglaries in the city. He has been charged with four felonies: second-degree burglary, third-degree criminal mischief, third-degree grand larceny, fourth-degree grand larceny and a misdemeanor, fourth-degree criminal mischief related to the two burglaries to which he confessed.
Excellent work, Dunkirk police, in getting their man.
What would be of tremendous help for city - and all area - residents, however, is for police to report to the public about where the burglaries are happening.
Here's the deal: our newspaper reporters see the book of arrests. They do not see the book of investigations, which is where a burglary may be filed.
We will print information on burglaries in Silver Creek, Westfield, Fredonia, Brocton and Dunkirk and any other area we cover if police agencies send the information out.
If it's not in our paper - or on the radio, those agencies are not alerting the public. You deserve better than that.
