CHERRY CREEK - Donald Pfaffenbach, 31, of 13900 Quaker St. in Collins was charged with felony driving while ability impaired by drugs, first-degree felony aggravated unlicensed operation, third-degree fleeing from a police officer, resisting arrest, reckless driving, speeding, and other miscellaneous vehicle and traffic laws.
Saturday at 8:15 p.m., a state trooper from the Jamestown barracks saw a green Chevrolet Trail Blazer parked in the parking lot of the Chautauqua County Department of Transportation salt barn.
As the trooper approached the parking lot the operator reportedly made and unsafe start traveling East on County Route 68. The officer activated his emergency red lights in an attempt to initiate a traffic stop.
The driver failed to comply so the trooper initiated a pursuit by activating his siren. The trooper pursued the vehicle at varying speeds ranging from 15 to 90 mph over a distance of nine miles for 12 minutes.
The operator stopped the vehicle on Center Road and fled on foot into a brush area. After a brief foot pursuit, the trooper placed Pfaffenbach in custody. He reportedly advised the trooper he needed medical treatment because he had injected heroin. The trooper requested an ambulance from the Cherry Creek Volunteer Fire Department which transported Pfaffenbach to Brooks Memorial Hospital. where he was treated and released to state police.
Pfaffenbach was arraigned in the Town of Cherry Creek Court and remanded to the Chautauqua County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 property bond.
