On Feb. 18, 2013, James Charles Schibetta, 55, ended his long battle with cancer. Jim was born Sept. 27, 1957 in Dunkirk, NY. He was a graduate of Fredonia High School, class of 1975. A veteran of the US Navy from 1978 to 1983, he served with pride and honor aboard the USS Enterprise (CVN-65) as a reactor operator/ instrument technician, with the rank of 1st class Petty Officer. He spent 10 years of his life in Shelton and Walla Walla, WA, where he served as minister of Liberty and Revival Baptist Churches, touching and changing many lives. He served the people around him as a minister of the Lord, dedicating countless hours of public service at the local prisons and outreach programs. After relocating to the Mentor, OH area, he was an active member of Country Baptist Church in Mentor where he was an associate minister. He was employed at Perry Nuclear Power Plant in Perry, OH as a systems and instrument technician.
A loving husband, he is survived by wife Pamela (Gilliam) Schibetta of Mentor on the Lake, his son Joe of Mentor and daughter Debbi of Walla Walla, WA and their mother Lynn of Mentor; step children Shaun (Christina) Muha and step grandchildren Zachary Hlin and Addison Muha of Mentor. Also surviving him are his father Charles and mother Sylvia Schibetta of Fredonia, NY, brothers Bill (Debra) of Dayton, TX, Chuck (Robin) of Tecumseh, MI, Mike (Theresa) of Phoenix, AZ, Tom of Fredonia, NY, John (Alicia) of Fredonia, NY, Rick (Brenda) of Richmond, VA and sister Gina (Schibetta) Kaczmarek (John) of Ballston Spa, NY and his cousins Michael Ray (Betty) of Hamburg, NY and Jon Ray (Tara) of Phoenix, AZ, who were raised with the family, brother in law John (Cheryl) of Eastlake, sister in law Stephanie (Terry) of Mentor. He is also survived by many more aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, cousin and friends.
Arrangements by the McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home located at 6330 Center St. (Rte. 615, N. of Rt. 2), Mentor, OH. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Friday, Feb. 22. A service will be held at 10 AM Saturday, Feb. 23 at Country Baptist Church of Mentor. The family will receive friends one hour pri-or to the service. Burial will be at Mentor Cemetery, Mentor.
