The Lake Erie Bird Club will meet Monday at 7:30 p.m. at BOCES, Fredonia-Stockton Road, Fredonia. Tom Simmons of Jamestown will present the program. Simmons is currently president of the Roger Tory Peterson Institute Ornithological Club, a past president of the Jamestown Audubon Society and a retired Jamestown teacher. He will describe his two-week stay on the island of Maui, Hawaii, last February. He will share projected images of an inactive volcano, humpback whales, and many birds - including some that were introduced to Hawaii from diverse locations, some over-wintering birds, and several endemic species that can be found nowhere else in the world. All who are interested in birds and wildlife are welcome to attend.
Lake Erie Bird Club members continue to enjoy watching the many waterfowl present at the Dunkirk Harbor this winter. Birders from the Buffalo and Jamestown areas have also been coming to observe the many ducks and geese at the harbor. Some of the recent highlights include four greater white-fronted geese, black-crowned night herons, and numerous species of ducks.
