Bud 'n Bloom Garden Club recently had its monthly meeting at Temple Beth El. The first order of business was to make individual flower arrangements to present to each of the residents of the WCA Home. Making and delivering these arrangements to the Home has been a valentine tradition of the garden club for a number of years. The carnations, baby's breath and ferns were carefully selected by Audrey Parker and lovingly arranged by the members of the club.
After the members completed making the flower arrangements, they had a light supper consisting of vegetarian chili with rice, corn chips and salad prepared by Phyllis Steinberg and Audrey Parker. During the informal meeting, the dessert made by Kathy Listz was served.
The main order of business was planning their fifth annual plant sale benefiting Literacy Volunteers. The sale, which will be held on Saturday, May 18 and Sunday, May 19, will include an even greater number and variety of perennials, annuals, vegetables and herbs than in the past. The plant sale will again take place at the Deakin's barn on Route 20 in Portland. There will planters on sale and in addition there will be a demonstration of how to make your own attractive planter from the selection of annuals and perennials on sale.

Several committees were formed to help with the organization of the plant sale. Penny Deakin will be in charge of all the planting of seeds and transplanting of seedlings while Judy Kawski will be in charge of labeling, arranging and organizing the plants for the sale. Janet Arnold's committee will take care of sales while Phyllis Steinberg's committee will coordinate all the publicity.
All the garden club members participate in the two-day sale and some members of Literacy Volunteers participate as well. The community has been very supportive of this benefit plant sale in the past and we look forward to once again providing beautiful, hardy, reasonably- priced plants for sale.
The last piece of business discussed was making preliminary plans for the installation dinner, which will be held once again at the Shorewood Country Club on Wednesday, March 13. Lucy Hurley volunteered to design the gifts and make the presentations to the incoming officers. The club members were excited to be talking about plants, upcoming spring events, and the plant sale on a cold, wintry February evening.
