Douglas W. Hood, US Army, Ret., of Martinsburg, WV, died Friday, February 22, 2013 at his residence.
Born on March 12, 1949 at Fort Benning, GA, he was a son of the late Jack Franklin Hood, Sr. and Thelma Patricia (Sowers) Hood. He also was preceded in death by his wife Bonnie Carol (Umstot) Hood on November 26, 2000 and by a son, Gregory M. Eisenhauer.
Mr. Hood was retired after 26 years of military service with the United States Army. He retired with the rank of First Sergeant and served during both the Vietnam and Persian Gulf War, receiving the Purple Heart. He attended Keyser High School and received an associate's degree from Central Texas. He was a member of Boyce-Houser Post #41, American Legion, Keyser and Lodge # 120, LOOM, Martinsburg.
Surviving are one son, John H. Hood and wife Deborah of Pikeville, NC; two daughters, Diane M Eisenhauer Bilyeu and husband Cliff of Omaha, Arkansas and Ladonna R. Mark and husband Alfred of New Port Richey, FL; one brother, Jack F. Hood and wife Carol of Dunkirk, NY; eight grandchildren, Kristen, Thomas, Rachel, Kristina, Jessica, Elizabeth, Briana and Joshua and five great-grandchildren, Steven, Lilli, Nolan, Autumn and Amber. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Thursday, February 28, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. Boyce- Houser Post # 41, American Legion will conduct a memorial service at the funeral home on Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Friday, March 1, 2013 at 11:00 a.m.
Entombment will be in the Potomac Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Keyser. Graveside military honors will be accorded.
