Once again, Fredonia native Jennifer Suhr is on top of the world.
This weekend during the USA Indoor Track and Field Championship in New Mexico, Suhr cleared 16 feet and 5 1/2 inches to claim the world record in the women's pole vault. Needless to say, area residents and the Western New York region can share in the pride of the accomplishment.
"I want to perform well and perform what I am capable of, so I naturally put pressure on myself," Suhr said after the event. "I knew some big things could happen, I just need to be healthy and come down the runway. That was the main goal, just to be healthy. I knew if I could execute and stay focused and listen to the instructions I had that it could happen."
With the jump, Suhr exceeds the previous record held by Russian Yelena Isinbayeva. For Suhr, 2012 proved to be golden. It looks as though the sky is the limit for 2013.
