PERRYSBURG - John L. Daniel, 87, of North Road passed away Saturday (March 9, 2013) at the Lak-eshore Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in the Town of Hanover.
Born January 26, 1926 in Lublin, Poland he was the son of Stanislaw and Eleanora (Kof) Daniel.
John was a holocaust survivor taken from his homeland in Poland during the German invasion of WWII. Only 15 years old, he was forced to live in a concentration camp never to see his parents again. John was able to defect from the camp to join American forces which enabled him to come to America when the war was over. After arriving by ship into Ellis Island John found work at St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church in Buffalo where he met his wife Dolores Gorej (also from Poland). They were married July 2, 1955 at the St. Barbara's RC Church in Lackawanna. Dolores passed away June 1, 1988.
John was a member of Local 897. Having worked for Ford Motor Co., he re-tired from the Woodlawn Stamping Plant after 25 years of service. John also was a member of the James Cruden VFW Post 5007 of Gowanda and the Gowanda Moose Lodge No. 1312.
Survivors include two sons: Tim (Teri) Daniel of Perrysburg, Mike (Barb) Daniel of Brant and a daughter, Joanne Daniel of Gowanda. John is also survived by grandchildren Cherish, Corrielee, Jennifer and Christopher along with great grandchildren Serenity, Mikayla, Justice, Sebastian and Cody. Besides his parents and wife, John is preceded in death by brothers and sisters in Poland.
Friends may call at the SCHINDLER FUNERAL HOME 44 Center St. Gowanda (716)-532-4200 Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. where funeral services will be held Wednesday (March 13, 2013) at 10 a.m. Interment to follow in the Holy Cross Cemetery Buffalo. Memorials may be made in John's name to a charity of one's choice.
